INDOOR GYM

The Importance of Play

At Little Town Child Care and Montessori, we understand that play is not just about having fun, it’s about giving children the opportunity to be themselves. Our play-based approach provides numerous benefits for toddlers, preschoolers, and children diagnosed with autism.

Our indoor gym, equipped with cutting-edge equipment, is designed to encourage active play and physical activity, promoting good health habits for a lifetime. Furthermore, it helps children develop gross motor skills, balance, and confidence, as well as crucial social, cognitive, emotional, physical, and fine motor skills.

The indoor gym is an ideal place for children to interact independently with their peers, regardless of the weather conditions, fostering social skills and independence. We believe that play-based learning is a crucial way for children to explore and understand the world around them.

At Little Town Child Care and Montessori, we are dedicated to fostering growth and learning in all children, including those with autism. Our facility features sensory-based toys and occupational therapy equipment to enhance their experience and support their need to thrive.

Our indoor gym accommodates children’s sensory needs and functions, reducing sensory overload and allowing for enjoyable play. The gym can increase independence and social skills, as well as raise tolerance to new stimuli through activities such as bright colors, balls, and tunnels.

Sensory play equipment is suitable for both children with autism and those without, offering opportunities for individual or group play. For children with autism who may struggle with low muscle tone, our indoor gym provides a fun way to strengthen their arms, legs, hands, and core muscles, improve muscle tone, and calm and organize their nervous system.

Our therapists use various equipment to help children with autism explore different forms of movement in a safe and controlled environment. This repeated exposure helps improve their level of tolerance to overwhelming stimuli, building confidence and self-regulation in real-life situations.

ARTS AND CRAFT

Art Supports Children’s Development

Painting, coloring, sculpting, drawing, and other forms of creative art are an important part of the child care curriculum. Creating art supports young children’s development across several different domains. Using art tools helps children develop small muscle coordination and control.

Children can practice thinking skills by experimenting with color, texture, and design. Art gives children an opportunity to express their ideas and feelings, relieves tension, and provides limits for self-discipline. Art allows children to achieve and expand their creativity.

Little Town Child Care and Montessori is proud to offer creative art therapies to children with autism. These interventions are based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps children with autism develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight.
